Woori Kyrgyz, Our Kyrgyz.  The country which I will live in for the next twenty-seven months.

Before talking about life here (and the endless marvel of the beauty of this country), I feel that it is most appropriate to say that all 200 PCV’s (Peace Corps Volunteers) are safe in country.  We have been well-fed and well-taken care of despite the conditions that the country is currently in.  My thoughts these days are with the Kyrgyz people as they are faced with challenges we have never faced in America.

This country which you can read more about here

Kyrgyzstan is 94% mountains – which translates into me having a bird’s-eye-view of snow peaked mountains at any time of day. On top of that the economy is mostly dominated by agriculture. Instead of cars passing by my window, I have donkeys. Instead of waiting at a red light, I am forced to wait at sheep crossings.

Being surrounded by more animals than people that also means that I wake up to the best orchestra in the world.

I wake up to the call of the rooster, the moo of the cow, the nay of the horse, and the crowing of the birds. My family sometimes chimes in though with blasting loud American techno.Oh Kyrgyzstan, how I anticipate to explore the mysteries and treasures you hold…
